CDTI Research and Development Project FICASU: Revaluing hemp as a new raw material for substrates

The CDTI has awarded Crea Sustratos funding for FICASU, an R&D project to develop commercial substrates from hemp-crop residues.

FICASU: Revaluing hemp as a new raw material for the production of commercial substrates.

The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) has awarded CREA SUSTRATOS S.L. funding for the development of a Research and Development project.

The FICASU research project (IDI-20230217) has as its main objective obtaining new commercial substrates based on the residues generated by hemp cultivation. It involves the comprehensive revaluation of the hemp crop through the use of the fibres, inflorescences and stems that are discarded for industrial use and that come from crops with different commercial purposes.

The project has been planned over a 24-month timeframe, having begun its execution in September 2022 in the town of Alfacar (Granada), with the collaboration of the Tecnova Technology Centre, located in Almería.

The development of this project will mobilise an investment of €184,322.00. It is part of the call for R&D Projects, subsidised by the CDTI, supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
